How to Set Up a Digital Menu Board on a TV for Your Cafe

A digital menu board needs three things: a display customers can read, a compatible player connected to it, and software for maintaining the menu. With SignageWall, you pair the player with your account, add items to the Menu board app, choose a design and publish it to your screen.

For your first cafe screen, keep the task small: show a clear drinks menu and prove that staff can change a price. You can expand the display once that basic workflow is dependable.

Start with the screen you have

An existing TV may be suitable if it has a compatible input, is readable in the room and is appropriate for the hours you plan to run it. Check the panel manufacturer's operating and mounting guidance before committing to a location.

Place the screen where customers decide what to order. A menu hidden behind the coffee machine or washed out by window glare will remain difficult to use regardless of the software.

You also need a compatible player device, power, a suitable display cable and internet for setup and updates. Check the SignageWall player page before buying hardware. If a build requires access from the team, obtain it for your device first.

Prepare a short, accurate menu

Start with the items customers ask about most often. Group them under familiar headings such as Coffee, Cold drinks and Food. Keep the name and price prominent; use descriptions only when they help someone choose.

The accompanying sample menu CSV gives you a starting file. Replace every item and price with your actual offer before using it with customers.

1. Install and pair the player

Connect your player device to the TV, select the right input, and open SignageWall Player. Enter the registration code it shows in the dashboard's Screens area.

Name the screen by its location and purpose: “Counter — drinks menu” is more useful than “Screen 1.” Check that you can identify the correct screen before publishing content.

2. Add your menu items

Open Menu board in the app catalog. You can type items into the editor or import a CSV. Each item has a name; price, description, category and photo are optional fields.

For a short menu, direct entry keeps the first setup straightforward. For an existing list, prepare a spreadsheet and export it as CSV. Use a header row and put each item on its own row. Store prices as numbers and choose the menu's currency in the app.

CSV import copies data into the menu. It is not a live connection to the spreadsheet: changing the original file afterward does not update the imported board. Keep a clear rule for where staff maintain the current version.

3. Choose a design that fits the offer

Select a design, add a heading and adjust the available branding settings. If you use photos, choose a few useful images that help customers recognize the food. A photo-heavy layout leaves less room for names and prices.

Longer menus can require multiple pages. Watch the complete sequence and check that every item is visible for long enough. Customers should not have to wait through a long promotional rotation to find the price of a coffee.

4. Publish and stand where customers stand

Save the menu and add it to the counter screen. Then leave the dashboard and check the physical display from the entrance, the queue and the ordering point.

Ask someone who did not build the menu to find an item and its price. If they need to move closer, simplify the board. Removing a long description may help more than changing the font or adding another image.

5. Test the changes staff will make

Before opening, run a short check:

1. Change one sample price and confirm the new value on the TV.
2. Correct an item name and check the published spelling.
3. Restart the player and observe how it returns to the menu.
4. Briefly disconnect the network after content has downloaded and inspect playback.
5. Restore the connection and verify another edit.

Network interruptions prevent new changes from reaching the player. Check the actual device behavior before relying on cached content during service.

Give one person responsibility for menu accuracy. When something sells out, staff should follow your chosen update process; the menu does not receive stock information from your till through this setup.

What does a cafe TV menu cost?
